The Cove is having a Pool Party!

This summer, The Cove youth group will not be meeting in the Youth Room upstairs on Wednesdays. Instead, we will be having our fun and fellowship in the Browns’ pool! Beginning tonight, June 27, The Cove will meet at Linda and Daunte Brown’s house! The Browns have a pool for us to swim in and they will be graciously providing snacks and drinks. It’s sure to be a lot of fun, just don’t forget to bring/wear your swimsuit! This is the perfect time to invite your friends, too!

If you need help getting a ride, or if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask Bekah. If you need directions to the Browns’ place, please ask Bekah or Linda.

Young Adults’ Group – College & Post-college

This summer, if you are in college, college-aged, or even a little older, we heartily invite you to join us every Tuesday at 6:00 PM at the Mattoons’ place for dinner, worship, Bible discussion, and fun!

Our hope is for these Tuesday evenings to be just a chill time of gathering together to eat and do some singing and praising, but also to wrestle with honest questions about scripture and life and to encourage and support each other along the way.

We hope to see you there! And invite your friends, too!

Barbecue at the Browns’!

This July, the Cooks will be returning for a brief visit from their mission in Chiapas, Mexico. Linda and Daunte Brown will be hosting a barbecue party at their place to celebrate, and you are all invited! We hope to follow with more details very soon, so please be on the lookout for that.

Seminary for Everyone – Begins this Sunday!

Seminary for Everyone really is for everyone, and it begins this Sunday at 9:30 in the Fireside Room.

This week, we’ll be asking what it means to say that the Bible is inspired.

  • How do you read the Bible?  What lenses do you bring to the text?
  • Is it possible to read the Bible and get the perfect interpretation 100% of the time?
  • How do we learn to interpret the message of the Bible well?
  • Have you ever seen the Bible interpreted badly?  Have you ever seen the Bible used to hurt others — or yourself?
  • What God say about what the Bible is supposed to be in our lives?
  • Is the Bible just as sacred as Christ himself?  How does the Bible relate to Jesus?

Come and join the conversation!  Grab some coffee, some food, enjoy some good company and deepen your walk with Jesus and each other!

If you don’t know if this is for you, just drop in, take a peek, and feel free to come and go as you please!  It’s meant to be a warm and hospitable atmosphere for all!

This week, we’ll be asking what it means to say that the Bible is inspired.

A Big “THANK YOU!” for helping with our Yard Sale!

The Cove held their yard sale fundraiser on May 19. In all, over $350 was raised!

Bekah, Gabe, Josie, and Blakelee, and all the students would like to say a very big “THANK YOU!” to everyone who donated, helped organize, and/or supported in a different way to help bring this all together. It couldn’t have been done without all the love and support on the part of our Village family!

All the funds raised from this event will go toward The Cove’s general fund to help pay for enriching activities, fun events, and impactful outreach.

Thank you for supporting The Cove!

Special Guest Preacher Visiting Village Covenant

This Sunday, May 6, Village Covenant will be host to a very special guest: Gary Walter, President of the Evangelical Covenant Church! (That’s right, he’s not just Lauren Neely’s dad!) Gary will be here visiting for Mark Neely who is finally (finally!) graduating. However, Gary is also set to retire from his position soon, and as one of his final official acts before he retires, he specifically requested to be able to do a sermon at Village Covenant Church. It just so happened to work out rather serendipitously that way!

Gary has a long history with Village Covenant Church. He was a youth pastor here back when our own Kevin Leissner was in the youth group. He was actually Kevin’s very first youth pastor at that time! Beyond that, Gary has had a strong working relationship with Pastor Mario of our sister church, Vision de Garcia Covenant. Plus, of course, most recently, his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Mark, had been working here at Village for several years.

I think it’s probably safe to say this will feel a bit like a homecoming for Gary.
We hope you can make it out to see him!

The Cove Yard Sale Fundraiser

*The yard sale date has been moved to May 19!

The Cove is planning to hold a yard sale fundraiser! If you were planning on doing some cleaning out of your cluttered closet or garage, don’t throw away anything you find! Instead, please consider donating it to The Cove to sell at the yard sale. As the saying goes: “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” (Unless it really is just trash, like old banana peels. It you find something like that in your closet then, please, by all means throw it out!)

If you would like to donate some things to the yard sale, we would encourage you to start dropping those items off at the church now! Either bring them on Sunday or come by the church office during the week. If you have any questions or if you would like to help with the yard sale in a different way, please contact Bekah.

As always, all the funds raised from this event will go toward The Cove’s trip to CHIC this summer and other events and activities for the youth.

“Immerse: Kingdoms” Weekly Reading Schedule and Groups

This week, we will be looking at pages 237 to 252 in our “Immerse: Kingdoms” version of the Bible. This reading will be the focus of worship this Sunday, and also the focus of discussion this week in our reading groups.

We would gladly encourage all who would like to join a reading group to consider one of the following groups:

  • Men’s Group on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 – 8:45 pm
Michael Tucker and Bruce Ekblad, facilitators; meeting in the Church Office
  • Saturday mornings from 10 – 11:30 am
Kevin Leissner, facilitator; meeting at Don and Beth Rasmussen’s home
  • Sunday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30 am
Victoria Ward, facilitator; meeting in the VCC classroom across the courtyard
